Hello there everyone !

We haven't updated our blog for quite a while, so here's a post. Eventhough the competition's over, we will still try our best to make this blog alive. We're not saving the orang utans just for the sake of this campaign, but for eternity ! And we hope that you will too :) We just can't let them be tortured and killed day by day, can we ? They are just innocent furry friends who want to live on this very Earth !

As you all know, the final results are tomorrow. We will be at The Curve from 10.00am onwards as they will be announcing the winners for the competition. Heh, we're having butterflies in our tummies ! We really hope that we will be given the chance to be the winner of this competition since we put in a lot of effort and hard work in making this campaign a success. It's not just about the prizes, it's about our care and love towards our environment. If we don't start playing our roles now, then who will ?

We couldn't have made it to the Top 10 if we didn't get support from anybody. So, again, we would like to thank everyone out there who supported us throughout the whole campaign ! We just don't know how else to say our deep appreciation towards those who gave their support. We would also like to thank our teacher advisor, Puan Puteri Isyatur Radhiyah, who gave a helping hand and encouraged us in this campaign. She has really good ideas I tell you ;) We love you so much Puan Puteri !

So right now, all we can do is just wait and see what will happen tomorrow. If God wills, we can be part of the Top 3, hopefully ;) We just couldn't have done it without all your support and commitment !

We seriously love those of you who truly supported us in this campaign :)

Dudes, I mean like, DUDE!

We, Orang Utan Savers are in the top 10. I MEAN , DUDE! That's beyond AWESOME. For me, that's good enough. I mean, of course we want to win but tv9 CHOSE us. That mean our voices have been heard. So winning doesn't matter that much at this point.

I am so glad to say that during our campaign, we've been through loads of UPS and never DOWNS. You guys, the supporters made it so easy for us. You inspired us. When we approach you guys for signatures and stuffs, you WOWED us with your enthusiastic gestures. Dudes, just wanna say, you guys are GNARLY.

What we did wasn't much. But we know, we made an impact. Doesn't matter if it's a small impact. It's still an impact nonetheless. By voting for us, you show that you care for the Orang Utans. Doesn't that sound appealing? Furthermore, it's Ramadhan okay! It's a month devoted for good deeds.

I cannot even begin to express my greatest gratitude to everyone who has been supporting us. As we are inching closer to the dateline of submitting this blog, I cannot help but feeling a little zing in my heart. It's so hard to give it all up, after all we went through.

Currently, I'm listening to You'll Be In My Heart by Phil Collins in our blog- Trading Love which makes it even more harder for me to let go. I'm not quite certain letting go of what exactly but it's just feel like an end. It's very nostlagic for me for some reason. It's almost like a journey and now it has come to an end.

I believe that the Orang Utan Savers have indeed done something for the orang utans. This blog, dearest reader, has almost come to an end but I can assure you, our effort, our journey in saving the orang utans has just begin and we are still counting on you to be with us.

It Comes To An End

As you all know, tomorrow which is 31st August 2009 will be the deadline for this competition we are currently participating in. It is also the National Independence Day for Malaysia! Happy Birthday Malaysia :) So we are taking this opportunity while this competition is still running to thank every one of you who have dearly supported us in saving the orang utans. We know that your support and the courage you have given us all this while has made a big difference for the orang utans thus giving them a brighter future.

This competition has been very wonderful and encouraging to us and it has given us an unforgettable experience. We have put all our efforts and hard work into this campaign just for the orang utans in hopes that we can give them a fresh new hope for them to continue living. Again, a warm appreciation to those who truly gave us their utmost support. We really are grateful that we can't even describe them in words. Before we say goodbye, we would like to wish all the Muslims out there Selamat Berpuasa and Selamat Hari Raya Aidiladha. Not forgetting, Happy Merdeka! :)

A Word To Apologize

We would like to apologize for not being able to carry out many activities for all of you orang utan savers out there. We were actually planning to carry out a campaign at Taman Aman during these school holidays. However, due to the Influenza A H1N1 pandemic our parents did not allow us to do so. Therefore, we just did the best we could and carried out the campaign in school before the school holidays.

We would also like to inform all our dear orang utan savers that we have successfully managed to collect RM 88 from the sales of our orang utan bookmarks. We were supposed to pass the money to WWF yesterday but we couldn't do so due to transportation problems. As all of you know, yesterday was a working day and of course, our parents were at work. We would insyaallah pass the money to WWF on Tuesday as Monday is a public holiday. Although RM88 is a substantial amount, we believe that it will still do good for the orang utans.

A Tiring Day!

Hello, there everyone. Well, today was a very tyring day for myself and my kakak. We went around my neighbourhood to give out flyers on orang utans :) . It was very, very, very tyring as we were fasting. With the passion we had to save these orang utans, we still carried out our job. These were the pictures which we took.

Rehabilitation Process

Hello, there everyone.

People often say that the government should open more rehabilitation centres for the orang utans. But, do we know anything about rehabilitation in the first place? Well, in this blog post, I would like to give you a brief intro on the rehabilitation process.

The process starts off with the admission process where the orang utans are admitted to the rehabilitation centre. It is something like going to the hospital, you see...

Then, the orang utans will be quarantined for a period of 3-6 months to eliminate the risk of passing on diseases to other orang utans. During this period of time, medical examinations will be carried on them.

The orang utans will be sent to the nursery. Here, they will be thought the necessary skills for survival. The Outward Bound School (Platform A) will then be the place for these animals. This is where the orang utans are given freedom and are encouraged to stand on their own feet. Their natural forest diet is suplemented with milk, minerals, vitamins, and fruits twice a day. This is to ensure that they grow healthy.

Lastly, the orang utans will be sent for their "Survival Training". Sounds scary right? This process actually determines their future. It allows them to be fully independent in the forest. The orang utans in the rehabilitation centres will then live happily ever after ;)

After much research, I have found out the life span of the orangutans. And, it makes me sad to say that an orang utan has a maximum life span of only

50 years. Sadly, in the wild, most orangutans can only live upto 30-45 years. But, why can't us humans leave these orang utans alone? They do not harm us and we should treat them the same way. Let us leave the orangutans in peace and harmony. Now and always :)

We have pledged to make this blog as interesting as it can be! Well, for some reason, people seemed to think our blog is deprive from uniqueness. WELL THINK AGAIN! Because I, one of the orang utan savers will make sure that this blog will cease to amuse you. (Sorry, I'm hungry due to the fasting month and all. I'm a little bit hyper when hungry).

Gosh. Like we are sooo moving forward! I mean, look at this blog. We have almost 900 visitors now! This is so totally fabulous! So, today, I am going to talk about HOW to save the orang utans. Don't you just find it annoying when people like tell you to save orang utan but never show you how? Well, I do. So, I looked this up on the Internet and found out how and now, I will tell you. (Content may have been modified for your reading pleasure)

1. Cut down the usage of PAPER. God, people. Do I like have to tell you everything? Common sense! I'm certainly not the sharpest knife in the drawer but I could figure out that papers came from trees. Trees are habitats for orang utan so, if we use more paper, they cut down more trees which mean, orang utans are losing their habitat!! HOW CRUEL IS THAT? GOSH! I mean, we have computer right? (Don't LIE to me, if you don't have any access to the computer or internet, you wouldn't be able to view our blog). If we are THAT desperate to send a letter to our loved ones *wink*, we can use the magic of e-mail. Crazy right? Technology nowadays, woah, they really excite me!

2. You can adopt an orang utan! You can name the orang utans and you will receive letters and informations about the orang utan you choose to adopt. You can adopt them from The Orang Utan foundation international. But I'm so broke. I've spent all my money on this totally fabulous dress yesterday. Now, I regret my decision. So, conclusion : orang utans before shopping!

3. The next is especially dedicated to the government. So like, read carefully, government! You can play a big role in saving orang utan! The government can like prevent all of these illegal tree cutters from cutting down orang utans habitat trough law enforcement. Apparently, the law now isn't enough. I suggest death penalty. I know right? So extreme! But why not? If there's death penalty for killing another human being, why not doing the same to orang utan? They too are living, breathing creatures! Get my drift? Like oh my gosh!

This is an incredibly long post!!!!! But I did something for the orang utans and that is what keep me going. We are on this mission and we hope we are not alone. THANK YOU!

Hey, there everyone. Just a short post to update you on what we have done so far throughout our orang utan campaign :) Check it out!

8 August: Orang utan flyers were given to Year 6 students of SK Assunta (1)
19 August: Orang utan flyers were given to staff of Azman, Wong, Salleh & Co.
20 August: Orang utan flyers were pasted on the walls of each class and were given out to all the teachers.
20 August: Pn. Puteri, our teacher advisor, promoted our blog during the morning announcement and encouraged school staff and students to visit it.
20 August: A few people from TV9 came to our school to interview us regarding our progress so far in this campaign.
20-21 August: Orang utan button badges were given out. The badges gained a lot of popularity and demands. Our fellow Elynna had to make more badges for the students!
21 August: Orang utan banners were signed. A lot of people showed their support by writing down sweet messages to the orang utans.
21 August: Orang utan bookmarks were sold to raise funds for the orang utans. Sold at RM3 each, we received a lot of response from the school staff.The funds will be given straight to WWF.

That is all for now. We will be carrying out more activities soon! We would like to wish everyone who was involved, and those who helped us promote our campaign. We appreciate your help!

How Many?

Well, my dear friends, we often hear from all kind of sources that orang utans are going to be extinct very soon. But, do we know how many orang utans are actually remaining in this world?

In Borneo, it is estimated that 12,000 to 15,000 orangutans are remaining in Borneo (compared to about 20,000 in 1996) and approximately 4,000 to 6,000 left in Sumatra (compared to about 10,000 in 1996). Sadly,experts have estimated that orangutans could be extinct in the wild in 10 years time.

While there is still time, let us do our utmost level to save them :)

Hello there, everyone :)

Just before our term break, we, the Orang Utan Savers carried out our orang utan campaign in school. We have put up flyers all around the school, given out button badges as well as sold bookmarks to raise money for the orang utan fund. An orang utan poster was also put up on the walkway towards the office. Students and teachers have also signed our orang utan banners.

Pn. Puteri also made a morning announcement to encourage more people to visit our blog.

Thank you to all teachers, friends and students for giving us your utmost support. We truly appreciate it and we believe that the orang utans will appreciate your help too. Your support makes a huge difference in these little ones lives.

Orang utans are facing extinction as all of our blog readers may already know after many mentions in our previous posts. That is, after all, the main reason as to why we created this blog in the first place. But did you know that a female orang utan can only give birth once every 8 years? What's worse is they can live for only about 35 years in the wild and 50 years in captivity (meaning the zoo). A male orang utan matures at the age of 15 while the female can only give birth when they are 12 years old.

Let's do some mathematics now, shall we?

(This blog is so good isn't it? Not only we save orang utan, we teach you math!)

Let's say a female orang utan lives in the wild and she's 12.

35-12=23.

That leaves only about 23 years of living for the orang utan. Which means=

23/8=2.9

They can only have 2 babies throughout their whole life.

Human should consider this before they cut down the orang utans habitats. What will happen if the orang utans are killed before they reached their mature age? They can't produce any offsprings to continue their legacy.

We are humans. We are responsible for everything that has happened to this world. We made a mess and we have to clean it up. Don't you agree?

Currently, we are orang utan bookmarks with pictures and quotes imprinted on them. All the money collected from the sales will be sent straight to WWF for the orang utans, we assure you that. The bookmarks will be RM3.00 at minimum price, but if you wish to help the orang utans a little bit more, you can also increase the amount of money, it is up to you :) We are thinking of more ways to raise funds, so we will inform you as soon as possible, do please continue to give us your support!

Alas, our dream is a step closer into becoming a reality - Seeing the orang utans running freely in their homes ;)

Durians Please!

The fruit season has started and one of the fruits that is most favourable by us Malaysians is the durian fruit. Have you ever thought that orang utans love DURIANS too? Based on research, it is said that their favourite fruit is the king of fruits. The orang utans will discard the skin of the fruit, swallow the juicy flesh and the seeds.

Unlike us humans, these animals consume the seeds of the durian. Basically, for their diet, they rely on primarily fruit, with young leaves, bark, flowers, insects, and bird's eggs. Not forgetting, their favourite is still the durian. So, if you do visit an orang utan sanctuary, do bring some durians for them. They will be very happy to receive it :)

Barely Alive No More

Aren't they just adorable harmless creatures trying to live a marvellous life on this earth?

But why don't we have some awareness planted in ourselves to save them from extinction?

Did you know...

Orang utans (including their little babies) have been slaughtered and killed brutally by a group of farmers because of the encroachment on palm oil farms. Yes, it is bad enough that we have been decimating their habitat but to comtemplate the killing and torturing of these beautiful creatures is just too much to bear. Many products have been labelled as an animal-free product and comes from natural substances. But how true are these labels? We might not be aware that we have been tricked into believing it, they maybe torturing animals right at this moment behind our backs. So please be very alert and consider about buying products that are really animal-free.

If everybody opens their eyes and play their role in saving the orang utans, we might see the earth brighten by orang utans happily living on this earth.

Have a big thought about this, why do we need to disturb the orang utans when they don't even make a big chaos in our daily lives?

Truth be told, I got my sister to help pass orang utan flyers to her friends during her Kelas Tambahan today. Swinging with LOVE while eating bananas :)

Aren't they just so sweet?

Falling in LOVE is a norm for all human beings. The same goes to orang utans. They too fall in love and have their mating partners. But how do they fall in love? Do they go on dates? Well, in a way they do.

Orang utans show interest in one another by looking at each other out of the corner of their eyes. Their interest for their partner is also obvious when they pass a hand over their head and make a high pitched sound. The other orang utan knows exactly what is meant and can respond to this gesture if it is interested. Orang utans have good tastes too! ;)

What about friendship? To show close friendship, they greet each other by gently placing their finger in the other's eye. Complete trust is shown and this is a way for the orang utans to say "I love you" just like we do to our loved ones :)

They Communicate Too!

This is something which might surprise most of you readers out there. Orang utans can actually speak and communicate with each other in their own unique ways. Aren't you curious on how these cheeky little ones do so?

Orang utans communicate through body language. When an orang utan is angry, it starts moving its body aggressively. It is highly advisable that you stay away from it!

Here's something new too. Only impolite orang utans look at one another in the eye. If an orang utan does not know the other orang utan, it should not look directly in another's eye. This is considered very impolite to the orang utan community. See, even orang utans have manners :) If we humans, keep eye contact with the orang utans for a very long time, these creatures may show aggressiveness which is dangerous as they may harm us.

Simple! Here are a few tips or ways for you to save these animals from extinction:

Participate in campaigns organized by various organizations.
Join the orang utan adoption programme via the internet and help thousands of orang utans who are orphans experience the feeling of having a parent to nurture and take care of them
Participate in signings petitions to prevent deforestation
Asia pulp and paper is destroying the forests in Sumatra and therefore causing the death of orang utans. So, please do reduce the usage of paper. Only use them when you have to. And when the need to scribble contact numbers and make shopping lists, use scrap paper.
Global warming does not only cause trouble in our daily lives, but the lives of all the animals around us. Yes, that does mean orang utans too! So, do whatever you can to reduce global warming. Lessen electricity usage (that includes air-conditioner, too!) and water usage.

I was sitting in front of my computer a few minutes ago, and it got me thinking what I should do to kill time.

The clock shows 9.42 pm. I thought of going to bed, but I am not sleepy yet. Plus, the night's still young! It's too early and I'm afraid I'll miss out on a lot of things while I'm asleep.

Then, I reminded myself that I haven't updated our orang-utan blog yet. Apologies to everyone if we have neglected this blog for some time. We have just been too caught up in studying for our August test! With the crazy H1N1 virus that's speculating everywhere, it really is hard to think straight most of the time.

So here I am, sitting in front of my mom's laptop and thinking of what to type out for today's post.

Did you know...

Orangutans have opposable thumbs which means they can touch each of their fingers with their thumb? I wonder how big and long their thumbs really are?

A male orang utan’s cheek pads keep growing for most of their life. Can you imagine how big their cheek pads will be by the time they are 50 years old?

As like humans, orangutans have 32 permanent teeth (the same amount as humans). They have sharp canine teeth. And, of course, the male orangutan has longer canine teeth that they use for threat displays and fighting.

Mosquitoes bother orangutans just like they do humans. The fascinating fact about them is that they will use branches like fly swatters to swish these annoying mosquitos away. Smart, eh?

By joining this group, we will update you on our recent activities and programs. Alhamdulillah, from '0' members in our group, we managed to get 212 members. In order to create awareness regarding the importance of preserving and conserving the orang utans, we will be carrying out various awareness programs starting from this week onwards. We do hope that everyone will be able to participate in the programs which we will be carying out. The programs will mainly be targetting our school pupils. So, to all our dear Sri Amanians, do take part in our programs. Watch this space, we will get back yo you regarding the date and venue of our programs as soon as possible. ;)

Why Should I care?

The first question everyone asks themselves is

'Why should I care about orang utans?'

They then convince themselves why they should play a part in saving these creatures.

'They are not part of my family nor my friends! I shouldn't be wasting my time helping them.'

Well, please don't think this way. Change the way you think. It's for the better.

Orang utans are a part of us. They are God's creation and part of mother nature. We must care and think about them too. Let me tell you a bit about them.

Orang utans are said to be of the same family as human beings as they are primates and have reddish-brown fur. Orangutans have shiny, red hair. They have powerful arms, which measure up to eight feet long. They have strong teeth and jaws. Their legs are smaller and weaker than their arms. Therefore, this is why you see monkeys and apes moving mostly with their arms. Their legs are five feet long. Orangutans are also the largest arboreal
(living in trees) mammal. Interesting, right?

Orang utans usually live in the tropical rainforests which can be found in most countries in Asia. They actually build crude nests and they are the one and only mammal who builds a roof for shelter when there is a downpour.

Why is it that orang utans are very much similar to us human beings? Orang utans are very intelligent. Let me enlighten you about some very intelligent and extraordinary things that they can do. Well, in the jungle, when these animals swing from tree to tree, they will not move until they get a firm grip of a branch. They also often drop seeds around the jungle to make more food for themselves. Believe it or not, these animals have developed brains and are really, just like us!

Now, there are less than five thousand orang utans left in the world. Let us save them from extinction.

This blog CAN be enjoyable. It's not just about orang utan and facts. So in order to make it enjoyable for you, readers, I will type today's entry as a BIMBO!

O.M.G!!! Did you know, like, Orang Utans are, like, totally human-ish?!! Their babies will, like, cry *gasp* when they're hungry, whimper *louder gasp* when they're hurt and SMILE, that's right, SMILE at their Mum! Maybe this is not such an interesting fact for you, like, smart people out there, but, like, I'm dumb you see, I find this, like, totally fabulous!

Secondly, I found out that Orang utans who are in the entertainment industry don't have pension or any other protection to fall back on once they're, like, too old to do anything. Instead, their owner will actually dump them as if they're useless once these orang utans can't provide those stupid-two-face-orang utan-slayer (the former owner) with benefits anymore. I mean, I'm not the sharpest knife in the drawer, but I know that's like totally mean.

Orang Utans are living creatures. Just like us! How would YOU feel if someone took you away from your family and forced you to entertain people just so they can get money? Hey, there, everyone. Thank you very much for visiting our blog. Well, let me get you a step closer towards saving the orang utans and a brief introduction on what we are actually doing. First of all, we the students of SMK (P) Sri Aman are actually participating in the 'orang utan' project organized by Tv9, WWF and Boh. The main objective of us creating this blog is to instill awarenss among all of us on the importance of preserving and conserving the forests for the sake of the orang utans.

Our team consists of 4 team members as well as a teacher advisor. Our members are, myself, Farhanah, Hanna Suhaila, Elsa and not forgetting, Elynna :) Our teacher advisor is Pn. Puteri. Thank you very much, Pn. Puteri for being in this with us. We truly appreciate it.

I am sure that everyone of you will be wondering about what kind of activities will we be carrying out for this orang utan project?
